SDDOT BITUMINOUS TECHNOLOGY – INTRODUCTION TO

ASPHALT

Introduction to Asphalt is an eight (8) hour basic information course for those who will be pursuing Certification through the SDDOT QC/QA Asphalt Concrete Certification process or who are interested or have an employment need for background in asphalt and asphalt concrete technology.  It is recommended, but not mandatory, for all SDDOT QC/QA Asphalt Concrete Certification applicants.  For those with entry level experience in bituminous technology and/or bituminous projects or who are new to the bituminous industry course attendance is strongly recommended.

Course Syllabus:

·       Defining the Need for QC/QA

·       Primer on Asphalt Materials

·       Introduction to Performance Graded (PG) Binders

·       Introduction to Aggregates and Asphalt Mixture Types

·       Project Selection and Preparation for Paving

·       Plants, Placement and Pavers an Overview

·       Compaction and Pavement Acceptance

·       SD QC/QA Specifications

·       Self Graded Test and Certificate Upon Completion of the Course.

Requirements:

·       Basic Math Skills

Cost:  $100.00/Student including all reference material, testing and certificate.
